Rocklands Win First Prize in Bower Parade

First Prize for the competitive tableau in this year’s Lichfield Bower Procession was awarded to Rocklands Special Needs School, Lichfield for their pirate themed float.

With bunting designed by pupils, props handmade and borrowed from staff and parents, and the children dressed in their best pirate costumes, the float also featured lots of enthusiastic singing of pirate themed songs by those on board.

“We wanted to make the float a sensory experience for all of the pupils taking part”, said Claire Jennings, Chair of Rocklands School Association (ASPF) “We used lots of sparkly materials and bubble machines and the children thoroughly enjoyed being part of the event and waving to all of the crowds.  Winning first prize was overwhelming and everyone involved was thrilled”

“Being part of the Bower was only made possible by the kind and generous support of Paul Hawkins from Hawkins Logistics, Rugeley, who provided the truck and drove us in the procession.” Claire added.

Rocklands School Association will be putting the prize money towards a new sensory garden at the school.
