Belong, Believe, Become

Puffin

Welcome to Puffin Class!

At Rocklands School we believe that a child’s early experiences are vital in providing the foundations for future learning and successes.

In Puffins class we work really hard on creating a warm and welcoming environment. Our aim is that all children are happy to be at school, feel comfortable and ready to learn.

We focus on attention and listening, and communication. Alternative communication methods are used for children who need it, so they are able to ask for what they want through PECS, Makaton, pointing boards, buttons or whatever means they choose.

We encourage and teach the children to be as independent as possible through routines and repeated tasks. For example, taking off their coats and putting it on the table before going to sit on their chair, basket tasks, class monitors, self-registration, following the visual timetable…and all with high expectations for independence and participation.

Play is extremely important and we focus on supporting, guiding and modelling good play skills. Children need to learn how to play alongside others, begin to interact and how to use certain skills to access various toys.

Everything we do is all about the children. Activities and planning are child initiated and all about their interests, individual learning and needs.

Here in Puffins we have lots of fun! Come and have a look around....

Meet the staff

The Great Outdoors

For the Summer term we will be following the theme of "The Great Outdoors."

During Puffins visit and exploration of the great outdoors we will be looking at the animals on the farm, having a trip to the seaside and visiting the park. The introduction to the great outdoors will be through lots of fun stories, such as “Mrs Wishy Washy”, “Commotion in the Ocean”, “Spot goes to the park.”

There are lots of beautiful places to visit around the Staffordshire area. We will be enjoying lots of activities out in the fresh air, sharing photos of our favourite places outdoors and being very hands on in our learning!
