Outdoor learning is having an upgrade for 2024-25 as we develop our new forest school area and curriculum at Rocklands school.
Here at Rocklands we ensure our children have the opportunity to learn in an environment that suits their needs. We are keen to take advantage of all our facilities and to benefit from the unique possibilities that learning outdooors can bring.
By introducing Forest School sessions at Rocklands, we aim to nurture an understanding and respect for natural places where children experience nature at first hand through a series of engaging and achievable tasks.
The Forest School experience brings learning to life and improves a child’s ability to work co-operatively whilst also offering them opportunities to take risks, make choices and initiate learning.
Our forest school leaders:
Both will be completing their Forest school Leader level 3 qualification in September 24. They have already undertaken and passed a practical skills assessment, and run a successful 6 week Introduction to forest school programme.
During these sessions, children will experience all sorts of woodland activities that help them to build an understanding and appreciation of the woodland, as well as learn together in a totally unique way. The activities will be hands-on and may require the use of a range of tools. All tools are selected for appropriate and safe use, are fully risk assessed and are used in a controlled environment where children will be instructed and supported to use them safely.
The sessions will also allow time for peer mentoring and for the children to reflect on their experiences at Forest School.
